They burst on to our TV screens and into our hearts in Jnuary of 1972, doing daring rescues, saving lives, making us laugh and cry. They, would be the boys of station 51 and the crew of Rampart Emergency.
Who can foget those big, brown eyes and that heart stopping smile of Fire Fighter/ Paramedic Johnny Gage, and the big blue eyes of Fire Fighter/Paramedic Roy Desoto.
Remember the times when the Phantom came to visit station 51, he seemd intent on driving Johnny wild.
Who can forget the crazy antics of Gage, always chasing the Nurses at Rampart, and always finding some way to stick his foot in his mouth.
Were the guys really the TWITS that Captain Stanley seemed to think or was it a front to keep them from knowing how much he really cared?
The world may never know!!!!
The boys of station 51 gave us a lot of laughs and memories, and they influenced our lives in many different ways . A lot of young people went into the Fire Service and EMS field because of this show.
EMERGENCY took the newly developed Paramedic progrm and sold it to the public and more importantly, to the Politicians and advanced it by 10 years. Taking Fire Department Rescue Personnel, and ambulance attendants, and turning them into life saving teams. Today, 22 years after the show ended, the boys are influencing and entertaining not only old fans, but also a whole new generation.
The year 2000 marks 30 years of the Paramedic program in the United States and in recognizing the influence EMERGENCY had on this program, the original squad, the biophone, the datascope and defib, the trauma boxes and
handi - talkies, the turnout gear, helmets and uniform shirts (worn by the characters John Gage (Randolph Mantooth) and Roy Desoto (Kevin TIghe), will be donated to and inducted into the Smithsonian Institute.
On the Road to DC, there will be several stops along the way, so fans can meet the stars, get autographs, take pictures, and make some new memories.
So sit back, relax and enjoy the memories of fans young and old as they share stories of their favorite heros, memories from the show, and stories from meeting the stars themselves, as Project 51 makes its way across the States, ON THE ROAD TO DC.
